One word sums it up: Experience. We know the rafting rivers of the world like no one else. Inventing a fantastic new itinerary is almost as exciting as a first descent. Places like Machu Picchu, Cuzco, and Lake Titicaca are must-sees for every traveler. Why not include these and other highlights of Peru and its best rivers too? That’s just what we’ve done—combined the top cultural and archeological attractions with the Canete, Chile, Urubamba, and Apurimac rivers. We even threw some kayak paddling on Titicaca and a boat journey to the Ballestas Islands, Peru’s Galapagos!
It doesn’t get much better than this! The Zanskar offers all of the elements of the perfect river trip—exciting but safe whitewater, spectacular canyon scenery, extensive cultural contact, lots of diversity, great monasteries and palaces, beautiful campsites, dry and pleasant weather, remoteness, and an excellent local crew. It’s an immersion in Tibetan Buddhism with a touch of Moghul majesty, a photographer’s paradise.

The Subansiri , or “Gold River”, is the biggest tributary of the Upper Brahmaputra. It descends through verdant rainforests in the tribal state of Arunachal Pradesh, draining the waters beyond the Great Himalayan Range from Tsona Dzong up to the Great Bend of the Tsangpo in Tibet. It slices through the Eastern Himalayas to flow into India at Asaphila then on through the rugged isolated hinterlands of Arunachal. It joins the mighty Brahmaputra at the mystic confluence of Majuli – the largest inhabited river island in the world.
Where the southern tip of the Alps comes up against the Adriatic, dramatic landscapes interrupted by the historical and cultural relics of overlapping tides of invaders through the centuries are the norm. Everywhere you turn there is a castle or a cliff, an ancient orthodox monastery or a leaping waterfall, a Venetian-era walled port city...
The Rufiji River gathers the runoff from most of southern Tanzania. By the time it reaches the Selous Game Reserve it is a river of significant size, home to thousands of hippos and hundreds of crocs, and the water source for the diverse wildlife of the reserve. We float its quiet waters and occasional rapids, watching for wildlife, taking in the scenery, dodging the hippos, and experiencing a wild Africa seldom visited in the modern world of Land Rovers and zebra-striped vans. 11 days, July, December and January.
